PADDLE BAYOU LAFOURCHE
Registration is now open for the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) 2015 Paddle Bayou Lafourche event. BTNEP wants to invite residents and visitors from all over the country to travel along the waters of Bayou Lafourche and learn about the culture and heritage that goes along with it.
The 52-mile, four-day paddling trip down the bayou begins Thursday, April 9th, in Donaldsonville, and ends in Lockport on Sunday, April 12th. Paddlers can participate from one day to all four days of the trip. They will be treated not only to scenic natural vistas, but also to a fascinating backyard view of the bayou from the water’s perspective while enjoying camaraderie, food, music, and fun. Paddlers will get a firsthand look at the restoration work being conducted along the bayou, along with a taste of local cuisine, and entertainment every night in a campsite setting. Participants will also receive a souvenir t-shirt, water, and healthy snacks throughout the day. Canoe rentals are available in a limited supply. The trip cost is $40.00 per day, or $150.00 for all four days without a canoe rental. The cost for paddlers renting a canoe is $60.00 per day, or $225.00 for all four days. Preregistration is required.
Local residents not wanting to paddle can also join in the experience by supporting the event from the banks of Bayou Lafourche. Locals are invited to decorate their bayou side and provide signs of encouragement and welcome to our bayou visitors. In the past, visitors have been greeted with local music and cheers as the paddlers coasted down the bayou.
BTNEP started Paddle Bayou Lafourche as an innovative approach to educate residents and visitors about the culture and ecology of Bayou Lafourche, as well as the coastal restoration needs of the area and potential solutions.

LSU AgCenter Wildlife Field
LSU AgCenter Agriculture Building in Raceland
Managing Wildlife 2015, a field day for land owners, managers, and others involved in wildlife management, will be held on Thursday, April 23 at the LSU AgCenter Agriculture Building in Raceland.
The wildlife field day will feature discussions concerning wildlife forage planting recommendations relative to a demonstration food plot containing thirteen varieties of seed and seed mixtures. Additionally, experts from the LSU AgCenter, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries, and Louisiana Sea Grant will cover topics including: soil sampling & fertilizer application; small scale food plots & nuisance animal control; 2014-15 harvest summary; Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries private lands program; DMAP overview; managing habitat for native browse & browse survey demonstration; and a drone demonstration.

The Lafourche Council on Aging, Inc., will host its seventh annual Senior Dance/Prom. The dress code will be casual dress, church clothes dress clothes. The dance will be for seniors aged 50 years of age and or older. Entrance fee is can goods. We will have door prizes, and a half and half raffle. Lunch will be served and we will also have a band. We are asking for anyone interested to RSVP by April 27, 2015. When calling to RSVP please let me know if you need transportation. If you are under 60 and not disabled, their will be a $ 14.00 charge for transportation to and from the dance. The Houma Chapter #513 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will be holding the Annual Cajun Fly-In, at the Houma Airport on Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 9am until 3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this Family Friendly event. Admission is FREE. Hundreds of people attend each year, including many local Boy Scout Troops and families.
You will be welcome to walk the flight line and see Civilian and Commercial Aircraft up close.
Airplanes, Helicopters and Jets will be on display, along with displays of Military Equipment, Police/Fire/EMS equipment, local culture, educational activities, and food is available for purchase.
The EAA is a Non-Profit organization with the mission of promoting aviation activities. One of our main goals is educate the public about aviation. EAA #513 is the local chapter of the national organization. Our local chapter has members from Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. Mary, Assumption and St. Martin Parishes.
